A Mother’s Gratitude: Harriet Adoch Olanya Returns to Lacor Hospital to Say “Thank You” and Celebrate Her Baby’s First Birthday

Today, we were filled with joy and celebration as Harriet Adoch Olanya, a mother who faced immense challenges during her pregnancy, returned to express her heartfelt thanks to the hospital staff who saved her life and that of her preterm baby. This visit was especially significant as it also marked the first birthday of her daughter, Mich Pa Rwot Elora Karungi. This milestone once seemed uncertain but is now a testament to the power of hope, resilience, and exceptional healthcare.

Harriet’s journey began with a difficult pregnancy complicated by gestational hypertension, a condition that posed serious risks to both her and her unborn child. At just 32 weeks and 2 days, Harriet gave birth to her daughter, Elora, who weighed a fragile 1.8 kg. The early delivery and the baby’s low birth weight required immediate and specialized care, which led to Harriet and her baby being admitted to the maternity and neonatal wards.

The days that followed were critical. Harriet’s condition required close monitoring while her tiny baby fought to survive in the neonatal ward. The hospital’s dedicated team of doctors, nurses, and midwives worked tirelessly to ensure both mother and baby received the best possible care. Their expertise, compassion, and commitment played a role in stabilizing Harriet and helping her baby grow stronger each day.

Today, Harriet returned to Lacor Hospital, not as a patient, but as a grateful mother celebrating her daughter’s first birthday. She brought a cake adorned with the words, “Thank you for saving my mum and I.” The cake was a symbol of her deep appreciation for the care she and her baby received during their time at the hospital.

In her emotional address to the staff, Harriet shared her story and expressed her gratitude. “When I came here, I was scared and uncertain about what the future held for me and my baby,” she said. “But you gave us hope. You didn’t just treat us as patients; you treated us as family. You saved my life and the life of my baby, and for that, I will forever be grateful.”

Harriet also commended the hospital for the improved service delivery she witnessed during her stay. She highlighted the exceptional interpersonal relationships between the staff and mothers in the maternity and neonatal wards, noting how the compassionate care made a difference in her experience. “The staff here go above and beyond to ensure that every mother feels supported and cared for,” she said. “It’s this level of care that makes Lacor Hospital a place of hope and healing.”

The celebration of Elora’s first birthday added an extra layer of joy to the occasion. The neonatal ward, once a place of intense care and vigilance, was now filled with laughter and smiles as the staff joined in celebrating this precious moment. “Seeing Elora healthy and thriving is the greatest gift we could ever ask for,” said one of the nurses who had cared for her. “It’s moments like these that remind us why we do what we do.”

The hospital staff were deeply moved by Harriet’s gesture. Consolate Cwinyaai, one of the nurses, remarked, “Stories like Harriet’s remind us why we do what we do. It’s not just about providing medical care; it’s about making a difference in the lives of our patients and their families. We are grateful to have been part of her journey and to see her and her baby thriving.”

Harriet’s baby, Elora Karungi, is now a healthy and happy one-year-old, a witness to the life-saving care provided at Lacor Hospital. Her story reminds us of the impact that quality healthcare and compassionate service delivery can have on the lives of mothers and their babies.

As Harriet left the hospital, she hugged the staff and thanked them once more. Her visit was not just a moment of gratitude but also a celebration of the strength of mothers, the dedication of healthcare workers, and the miracle of life.  At Lacor Hospital, we are proud to serve our community and to be a place where lives are saved and hope is restored. Harriet’s story is one of many that inspire us to continue striving for excellence in healthcare delivery.

To all the mothers and families who have entrusted us with their care, we say thank you. Your stories are our motivation, and your gratitude is our reward.
